Kitami Mint Oil was first produced around 1902. By 1939, it had become an important industry in Kitami, accounting for about 70% of the world’s mint production. After being designated as a Heritage of Industrial Modernization of Japan in 2007, it has taken on a new role at Kitami Mint Memorial Museum.
