One of Biei's popular attractions, Shirogane Blue Pond, is a man-made pond originally created to protect the town from volcanic disasters. It is said that it got its magical blue color from Hokkaido’s nature over a long period of time. Together with Shirogane Blue Pond, you should also visit its source, Shirahige Waterfall on Biei River.
At Farm Tomita, famous for its lavender fields in the summer, you can enjoy seasonal flowers. There you can take in seasonal landscapes including colorful flowers such as scarlet sage and marigolds in bloom in the fall and the snow-capped Tokachi mountain range floating above the flowers in late fall.
Ningle Terrace is a forest shopping area in front of the Shin Furano Prince Hotel. Many cabins dot the wooden promenade, each selling its own specialty craft. In addition, there are benches and decks along the promenade, where you can experience the forest as it is. Just as the name "Ningle" ("fairy" in the Ainu language) suggests, you may feel as though forest fairies live in this magical area.
