Eastern Hokkaido - Asahikawa, Sounkyo, Kushiro

Kushiro-Shitsugen National Park is Japan’s biggest wetland and is famous for its majestic landscape resembling a prairie. It is believed that this area was part of the sea until several thousand years ago, after which the sea level decreased, and it became what it is today. This is one of Japan's best natural environments where you can see rare creatures, as well as plants such as reeds, sedges, and Jacob’s ladder. It is also known as a habitat for red-crowned cranes.
