Gifu is very famous for Takayama area and Shirakawago village. Year by year, many of foreigners visit there. Gifu has been working on the problems of international tourists so that anyone from overseas can enjoy sightseeing in the good old town.
Shirakawago is the small Gassho Zukuri village located at the foot of mountains in northwestern Gifu Prefecture. 114 thatched roof stand together in the village. The village itself was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995. Here is very popular because visitors can feel as if in the world of some fairly tail. Especially, winter is the most popular season due to the fantastic scenery with snow.
Gero Onsen is one of Japan's three best Onsen and famous for the waters which have retained that special quality. Gero is located between Nagoya and Takayama, about an hour south of Takayama. This makes it a convenient stopover, or an attractive alternative to stay during the Takayama Festival, when lodging is difficult to find in Takayama.
